Andrea Horwood

Andrea has had extensive experience in the publishing, media and beauty industries both in Australia and internationally. Her early career saw her found and publish the innovative  multi-award winning magazine AUSTRALIAN STYLE. Her achievements saw her featured on the documentary series ABC’s Australian Story introduced by Kylie Minogue. After running the magazine successfully for over 10 years in the highly competitive magazine market, Andrea sold the magazine with then business partner Lachlan Murdoch.

Andrea then went on to help launch Australian cosmetic brand BECCA cosmetics into the international marketplace as COO. In mid 2003, Andrea launched INVISIBLE ZINC. The brand became Australia’s fastest growing sunscreen brand with over 8,000 retailers including David Jones, Myer, pharmacy, Coles and Woolworths. Andrea worked with the international press and retailers to establish Invisible Zinc as the world’s leading chemical UV free sunscreen brand. She secured the valuable public support of celebrity New York dermatologist Dr Amy Wechsler (Dr Oz, Oprah, US Today Show) and negotiated her press visit to Australia that resulted in national TV news stories and major coverage in newsprint. In 2010, Andrea secured possibly the biggest launch of an Australian brand at London’s premier department store Selfridges. Selfridges launched Invisible Zinc with windows on Oxford St, an in-store press event and a prime location on the valuable ‘Hilary site’ on the main cosmetic floor.

Andrea successfully negotiated the sale of Invisible Zinc in early 2011 to Valeant Pharmaceuticals. Andrea created the chemical -free suncare line and negotiated the services of Megan Gale, Elle Macpherson, Jerry Hall and Georgia May Jagger. She launched Invisible Zinc products into pharmacy, department store and mass grocery channels, breaking traditional distribution boundaries.

In 2013 Andrea founded and ran the global wellness business WelleCo and over the following 6 years pioneered the Direct To Consumer (DTC) wellness model with over 80% sales through their own website, harvesting global customers through premium retailers and e-tailers including Selfridges, Net-a-Porter, David Jones, Sephora, GOOP, Harrods, Space NK.
